...Kanne Kalaimane...

Hi Friends...
Here comes a lullaby from me...The great song Kanne Kalaimane from the legend Kamal Hassan's Moonram Pirai...An ever green super hit of Raja Sir (Ilayaraja) and Dasettan (Dr.K J Yesudas)...music and voice by these geniuses respectively and the lyrics of the ever greatest Kaviyarasu Kannadasan...
...A sorrow behind this song...

In 1980, Kannadasan was not feeling well and was getting prepared to leave for Chicago for medical treatment. It was at this time that the film MOONRAM PIRAI was in the making. Ilayaraja sent for a song, and Kannadasan gave the song. That was the last song of the greatest poet the cine field had ever seen. As soon as Ilayaraja received the lyrics, he was overcome with untold sorrow. Ilayaraja himself is a writer of lyrics. He read and re- read the lyrics and sought to grasp the hidden meaning. Ilayaraja somehow had a premonition that this song would be the very last song from Kannadasan. He felt that Kannadasan had a message that he was leaving the Music lovers forever. That song was needed for a moving situation in the movie. In a very moving mood, Ilayaraja composed music for that song. And true enough Kannadasan never came back. This was the great poet's last song.
That last song of the poet brought crowning fame to Ilayaraja as the Music Director, Dasettan as the most appropriate singer, and by extension to Kamal Hasan as the one who provided lip movements. Dasettan had a great liking for this song.
I've tried to show justice to the song and the legends. Please hear the song and correct me...

Well Arun,

Thank you so much for the information provided by you. Infact, This is remenisence of my father who passed away a month back. This was the song he used to sing to make me go to sleep during my childhood. Yesudas was my dad's favourite singer and Kamal, his best hero. Now, I realise that there is so much to this song.

This song will always remind me of the great people around us.

Best Wishes
Gokul

Arun Bhai. The song was good. But i feel that it lacked something. Esp "aeno dheyvam sadhi seydhadhu paedhai poala vidhi seydhadhu" and "neeyillaamal edhu nimmadhi needhaanae en sannidhi". Can u listen to the original track once more. maybe i am wrong but still.

hai arun. my name is sangeeth. i landed in your blog from a search for the meaning of the lyrics of kannay kalaimaanay. great details about the song. i heard your song. congrats. you have made a sincere effort to give your best.if you feel "who the hell are you to comment on my song". SORRY. i just want to help you to be better just as you said in your blog. else why should i spend time writitng this comment when i could do anything else! i say - "you have perfected the kanay kalaimaanay line you have noted the voice vibrations at almost all places. you have improvised the song at places - 1.sathisaidhadhu, 2.ninmmadhi,3.orariro(last). you are disadvantaged by the karaoke - 1.which is 4min31sec when the song (i have!) is 4min3sec, 2.not that perfectly played as the film song. please confirm the pronounciations of (which i also have doubt as i am a MALAYALI) - 1.Yennum/Yen? 2.Kelkirein/Keithkirein?, 3.Karupinil/Karuthinil?, 4.Niraithen/Niraipein?." i say the song is one "that will hold me still if i hear it even when i cross a road". a masterpiece. great spirit. keep it kicking. bye. THANKS for reading till here.
